Tonight was the night.

Mya planned to tell him about her marriage, the loss of her firstborn, the problems she had with Ahmed, and then they could have sex. Closing her eyes, she swayed with need. She didn't want to wait. So far she liked everything she knew about him. Granted it wasn't much, but it was enough for sex. They could learn more about each other as things progressed. His light tap on the back door startled her.

She opened it and allowed him to pull her close for a kiss. The man had the absolute best lips in the world. His mouth slanted across hers and she lost herself in him.

"Hey," he said on a gasp as they broke apart. He closed the door and locked it without releasing her from his other arm.

"Hey yourself," she said glad to see him. "You had a busy day."

"You had an intervention." Taking her hand, he walked toward the living room and sat on the sofa. "I'm a private person, they never should've done that."

"True. Laura threatened to cut me," she said watching the shocked expression cross his face.

"Well... I don't know if I should apologize or tell you to be careful with me," he said.

She pushed his shoulder with a snort. "Is it true? You've never had a girlfriend? How old are you? Twenty? Thirty? Forty? How could you not have had a girlfriend before?"

"Thirty-five and it's never been necessary."

Based on the way he handled himself, she had guessed his age range, but the rest surprised her. "Meaning?"

"The women I've dealt with in the past met my needs without the benefit of a label or close relationship."

"Friends with benefits?" she asked.

"Friends?" He raised one brow.

"Just benefits?" Fuck buddies? There were a few women like that in the stories she wrote, but they were never the heroine. Typically, they were evil women trying to steal the heroine's man, emphasis on trying.

He shrugged non-comittally.

She wanted to push, especially since she planned to come clean. But he pulled her close and kissed her long and hard, stealing her breath.

"I missed you today," she panted stroking the scarred side of his face. For some reason, she did that every time they came together. The raised, rough edges that marred his otherwise perfect face fascinated her. She loved the feel of them beneath her fingertips.

"Did you?" He touched her lips softly and lingered. "Good. That's the way it's supposed to be right?"

No, You're supposed to miss me too, she thought as she pulled back emotionally. She'd made a fool of herself once and refused to do it again. Rather than answer, she leaned against his chest.

"My parents fought all the time. I thought they'd kill each other. Divorce was in everyone's best interest. I was just a kid when they made the final split. Believe me when I say I was relieved all the yelling stopped. Problem was, they didn't know what to do with me, which meant more fighting. In the end, my father, a Foreign Diplomat to Israel won me.
